New England Tour: Day Two

Our day started out wet and rainy. While we were disappointed, we were happy we were not in wilderness on this day! Academy at Swift River (ASR) was beautifully decorated for the season with pumpkins and fall mums.

We love the feel of this program!

It was great to see our friend Bar Clarke in his new role as executive director. He was in his element and seemed most comfortable with his strong staff. This was our third visit to ASR and we enjoyed seeing familiar faces. After a brief overview, we went on a campus tour with two of the students.

Bar Clarke and Louise in the clinical staff meeting

We had a delicious lunch and were so impressed with the impact their Chef Fabian is making on campus. He discussed how cooking has become part of the therapeutic process. He also teaches martial arts to the students who are interested. Below is a video of Chef Fabian talking about his passion for food and how he contributes to the students at ASR.

We wrapped up our day by meeting with the clinical staff, the academic staff, and the recreational staff who all included their puzzle pieces to symbolize  that all of these areas fit together to make up the ASR campus. Thanks for a great tour and visit.
